General Membership Meeting
Nominations of Chapter Officers
Our general membership meeting (refreshments from Dunkin Donuts) this month is Tuesday, October 2nd. We'll be accepting new nominations for officers [President, 1st VP, 2nd VP, Secretary & Treasurer](to be voted on at the November meeting), reviewing our events for this year,  having a fly-swap and showing two videos at the end of the meeting. We've also got some photos and video taken at our last picnic, where around 70 people attended and had a great time, and some great fishing experiences on the Farmington RIver.

Education & Conservation
If you read this newsletter or attend any of our events, you're probably aware that we're involved in teaching kids beginner fly-fishing skills, and that we have regular conservation efforts (like river cleanups) on rivers in our area (Still River, Naugatuck RIver, Housatonic River, Shepaug River, Bantam Creek, Salmon Kill, Macedonia Brook, etc) At these events, and at some of our "Trout in the Classroom" programs we're teaching participants to cast a fly rod. We use rods and reels donated to the chapter, mostly 5/6wt LL Bean and Martin with a few other brands thrown in.   As many of these classes are taught in parking lots and in fields, the line, leader and backing are in poor shape by the end of the class. We tie up our own 8lb test (3X leaders) for the classes, but the line and sometimes the backing suffer. If you have any old or used, or even weatherbeaten line that you don't intend to re-use, or any 4wt, 5wt or 6wt rods and reels you don't want, would you please donate them to the chapter? When we're in dire straits, we purchase line, and rely on donations for these line purchases (about $25 for one replacement line).
If you have something (really, in any shape) that you could donate, write Ken an email he will arrange to meet you or pick it up at your location.
You can also ship us anything you have at our PO Box, (PO Box 76, West Cornwall, CT 06796). All donations are tax-deductable and we will provide you with a receipt for tax filing purposes.
Housatonic River
Saturday, October 20th Fishing Picnic
Our next and possibly last fishing outing and picnic this year will be on October 20th, 10AM-4PM, at Housatonic Meadows State Park (location details, map & driving instructions located here, at our website). In October the Housatonic River cools down, and the trout are exceptionally hungry, due to the heat wave and high water temperatures of the summer. White fly and Sulpher immitations work well at daybreak and dusk, and terresterials will work all day long. We choose this area of the river to fish in October because though there's a gravelbar at the center of the river to stand on, both banks are deep-cut with a few shallow entering spots, and there's a lot of water, so when you hook-up, expect a good run before you finally land your catch. Excellent Rainbow and Brown Trout catches upwards of 18" are regular in this area of the river.  The area we'll be in is in the TMA, so fly-fishing, barbless hooks, and catch & release is in effect.  Waders and a wading staff are recommended.
You must have a Connecticut Fishing License and trout stamp to fish this area.
